AfroQueb Festival: a first historical edition in Quebec City — "where the heart of Afro-Quebec cultural intelligence beats"
A new festival was born, and it already has a big one! On June 27, 2025, at the Studio Sonum in Quebec City, the AfroQueb Festival launched its very first edition. Festival TV was there from the first day — because it is in the birth that the future of Afro-descendant cultures in Quebec is played.
"Where the heart of Afro-Quebec cultural intelligence is beating!" The formula, launched by the organizers, says the project's ambition: to offer the capital a meeting that celebrates the talents, heritages and creativity of the Black communities of Quebec — "a celebration of colour, talent and shared heritage." A first edition is always a bet. It was raised with great skill.
The same day, the festival was extended with AfroQueb Sound System, an event carried by King Alasko, "an exclusive production signed by Festival TV and Limo Community Care", announced the official publication. Produce, not just relay: this is the mark of our platform, which passes behind the curtain to make exist the events that it defends. And for reason: AfroQueb is the festival that Moïse 1er co-organizes itself, with his brother and close friends, including Biro Kanté.
Why so much attention for a young festival? Because the history of the great rendezvous always begins somewhere. Nuits d'Afrique also started modestly, in 1987, in a Montreal club — before becoming the largest festival of its kind in North America. Today's AfroQueb are the institutions of tomorrow, provided that they are supported from the cradle. This is the mission that Festival TV has given itself: to highlight the Afro-descendant and community festivals that do not benefit from the same projectors as mainstream events.
Québec now has its Afro-descendant festival. Long live in AfroQueb — and go to the next edition, where our explorers will, as always, be in the front row!
