Montreal is vibrating at the pace of the new cinema: the 55th edition of the FNC is in full swing until October 18!
It's THE Feast of Montreal's Autumn Cinema! The 55th edition of the Festival du nouvelle cinéma (FNC) takes place from October 8 to 18, 2026, with some 200 works from 30 countries. And this year, the festival opened in large: it was a Quebec film that kicked off.
The curtain rose on October 8 at the Monument-National with *Violence du corps de l'autre*, Denis Côté's new feature film, recently awarded at the Locarno Festival — Youth Jury Award and special mention for Xavier Bergeron's performance. Notable: it is the only Canadian title among the ten feature films featured in the program, alongside international signatures such as Pedro Almodóvar, Paweł Pawlikowski, Martin McDonald or Mike Leigh.
The festival will be full: the Louve d'honneur of this edition was presented on October 14 to the Canadian filmmaker Atom Egoyan, who has been used to the festival since 1987, with the restored screening of his film *The Sweet Hereafter*. Another very notable first: the creation of the Queer Louve, a new award dedicated to LGBTQIA+ cinemas and perspectives that are pushing gender standards, created in partnership with the Queer Palm of the Cannes Festival — a first iteration of this prize outside France.
The closing ceremony, this Saturday, October 17 at the SGWU auditorium at Concordia University, will also be in Quebec with *L'Autre* by Alexandre Franchi, presented as a world premiere at the TIFF. The screenings are spread throughout the Quartier des spectacles and around: Cinémathèque québécoise, Cinémathèque du Musée, Cinéplex Odéon Quartier Latin, Agora du Coeur des sciences de l'UQAM. There are a few days left to dive — the winners will be unveiled at the end of the festival, and Festival TV will tell you everything!
