Cheikh Lô
Baye Fall with the golden voice: Cheikh Lô blends soft mbalax, salsa, rumba and reggae in spiritual and dancing music, celebrated at the World Circuit at European festivals.
Cheikh N'Digel Lô was born on 12 September 1955 in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, of Senegalese parents; he began in 1976 in the Volta Jazz Orchestra before moving to Senegal in 1978.
Disciple Baye Fall — he is recognized for his dreadlocks and patchwork clothing — and he feeds his music with a deep, dying spirituality.
The breakthrough comes with Ne La Thiass (1995), produced by Youssou N'Dour and published by World Circuit: the album reveals it to the international public, followed by Bambay Gueej, Lamp Fall, Jamm and Balbalou.
In 2025, he published Maame at World Circuit, the number one title of the Transglobal World Music Chart in October 2025 and the World Music Charts Europe in November.
In the summer of 2026, he found the Afrika Festival Hertme in the Netherlands, twenty years after his first visit: Born the Thiass and Bamba Sunu Goorgui always make the crowds dance there.
