Arts and cultures of Africa and the diaspora · Dakar, Senegal
The World Niggers Arts Festival is the founding event of African cultures and its diaspora. Its first edition was held in Dakar in 1966, under the leadership of President Léopold Sédar Senghor; the second, the FESTAC '77, brought together the black world in Lagos in 1977. The third edition, the FESMAN III, returns to Dakar and Saint-Louis from December 10 to 31, 2010, on the theme of the "African Renaissance", with Brazil as guest of honour. The opening ceremony, at the Léopold Sédar Senghor Stadium, brings together some 50,000 spectators, nearly 2,500 dancers and the continent's greatest voices: Youssou N'Dour, Angélique Kidjo, Manu Dibango, Baaba Maal, Ismaël Lô, Toumani Diabaté and the master drummer Doudou Ndiaye Rose. The founding momentum of Festival TV was born in Dakar in December 2010. No further edition has been announced to date: the FESMAN remains a historic festival, whose memory continues to inspire the festivals of the continent.
The archives of the FESMAN III are kept by the broadcasters and institutions of the time. To date, no official freely integrable recording has been confirmed on an official channel: the record will be enriched as soon as an official archive is verified. The concerts filmed from the major African and world scenes are found in the media library Filmed by the Festivals.
