The festival
One hour north of Brisbane, in a green Queensland valley, a short-lived village is reborn each year between Christmas and New Year's Day: Woodfordia. For six days and six nights, the Woodford Folk Festival is home to more than 25 scenes — folk music and world music, dance, theatre, circus, cinema, cabaret, debates and a children's festival — from the opening ceremony to the spectacular fire ceremony of January 1.
Born in 1987 as Maleny Folk Festival and based in Woodfordia in 1994, the festival is produced by Woodfordia Ltd, a community non-profit organization, and for its 39th edition, from December 27, 2026 to January 1, 2027, it brings together over 2,800 artists and stakeholders, including representatives from 42 Aboriginal nations and 14 countries, for over 1,500 performances, workshops and presentations.
