Africa to the World: Headies Awards choose Toronto for their grand final on April 10 and 11, 2027!
It is a historic musical bridge between Africa and Canada! The Headies — the Grand Prix of Nigerian Music, founded in 2006 — have just announced that the final of their 18th edition will be held in Toronto on April 10-11, 2027, under the theme "Africa to the World".
In Lagos, October 10th, the news ran from studio to studio: the Grand Final of the Headies changed in date — and size. Originally scheduled for October 23, 2026, the Toronto ceremony was postponed to spring to allow for a broader program between Nigeria and Canada: meet April 10-11, 2027 in Toronto. In addition to the awards ceremony, Toronto will host the Headies Global Trade & Investment Summit, a summit to connect African companies, investors, government representatives and creative industry leaders to international markets, capital and strategic partners.
Until then, the festival continues: the Road to The Headies program will continue its activities — workshops, seminars and professional meetings — during the period initially planned, to keep artists, appointed and industry actors connected until the grand finale. Its founder, Ayo Animashaun, apologized to the guests who had already organized their trips, and promised a program of unprecedented magnitude.
After international editions in Atlanta, the Headies continue to conquer the world from Toronto — a city where the African diaspora is vibrating culture all year round. Visit Toronto in April 2027.
