CONAKRY THINKS BIG: THE “7 DAYS OF THE 7TH ART” PREPARE AN 8TH EDITION TURNED TOWARD THE WORLD, WITH RWANDA AS GUEST OF HONOUR
Some gatherings are prepared far from the spotlights, around a table, at the ministry. On Wednesday, October 14, 2026, in Conakry, the organizers of the “7 Days of the 7th Art” were received by the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Crafts, Moussa Moïse Sylla. They came away with a promise: strengthened institutional support to take their film festival to another level.
The festival — which has passed the five-year mark — is preparing its 8th edition with a clear calling: the international. The guest country of honour will be Rwanda, after France, the United States and Spain in previous editions. Enough to turn Conakry, for one edition, into a hub for African cinemas and their diasporas.
For the ambition goes beyond simply screening films. On the announced programme: workshops and masterclasses to train Guinean actors and technicians, co-production avenues to open access to international funding, and bridges between foreign studios and local production. The Guinean diaspora is called to come back and share its know-how — like director and actress Elia, announced among the highlighted talents.
The exact dates of this 8th edition remain to be confirmed. Festival TV will follow the file closely — when Conakry lights up its big screen, all of West Africa watches. The festival's fact sheet joins our directory today, in the Africa section.
