The festival
"Art that changes codes": the slogan of the Festival Afropolitain Nomade says everything about its ambition. A travelling festival created in 2012, carried by the Afropolitain organization – founded in Montreal in October 2011 by Vanessa Kanga, alias Veeby, singer of Cameroonian origin – he travelled from Douala to Dakar, from Pointe-Noire to Abidjan, to Montreal. En route: more than 700 artists and more than 1,500 concerts and residences produced in Africa and Quebec.
He is a multi-disciplinary artist who has a clear mission to engage in dialogue between Afro-Contemporaneous music, dance, visual arts, fashion, conferences, workshops and creative residences: to decolonize imaginations, promote gender equality and create intercultural bridges between Africa, the diaspora and the world. His 10th edition, the first in Montreal (May 27 to June 1, 2024), was entitled "From roots to life, from wings to mind: redefining the boundaries of creativity".
In 2026, the 12th edition of Le Ministère, in Montreal, was vibrating with its musical series "Traces et Héritages" — and in February, the McCord Stewart Museum hosted its Afro-Aboriginal creation residence: the meeting of Anachnid (Nation Oji-Crie) and Jahelle Bonee (Côte d'Ivoire). The nomad placed his suitcases in Montreal — and the festival continues.
