"Africa" under the walls of Lucca: 50 years of Toto for the 30th anniversary of the Summer Festival
On Monday, July 19, 2027, Toto will sing for the fifth time at the Lucca Summer Festival — but for the first time at the foot of the Renaissance ramparts of the Tuscan city. A double anniversary evening: the 50th anniversary of the American band, and the 30th anniversary of the festival.
Fifty years of songs, a first under the Mura
It's a rendezvous of regulars who are changing the scene. Toto had already played at the festival in 2003, 2012, 2019 and 2024; on 19 July 2027, Steve Lukather and Joseph Williams will be on stage for the first time at the Area Mura Storiche, where the edition of the 30th anniversary is entirely installed. On the program of the 50 Anniversary Tour: "Africa", "Rosanna", "Hold The Line" — the songs that have passed through the lives.
Songs that Change Generation
It all started on January 7, 1977, in a studio in North Hollywood: six musicians recorded the demos of a first album. In 1982, "Toto IV" won six Grammy Awards, including the album of the year. Half a century later, the band sold more than 50 million albums and "Africa" exceeded the two billion streaming listenings, carried by an audience of which more than half is under 34 years old: under the ramparts, three generations will sing the same chorus.
An anniversary edition taking shape
Born in 1998 — Bob Dylan gave the first concert there — the festival of D'Alessandro e Galli celebrates its 30th anniversary with a poster that is growing: Muse, for her debut at the festival and her unique Italian date of summer (Saturday, July 17), Take That (Tuesday, July 20) and Simply Red (Friday, July 30), of which Mick Hucknall will sign her seventh visit to Lucca.
