Dioïla is getting its own festival. The first edition of the Banico International Festival, Festibanico, will be held from Friday, November 13 to Sunday, November 15, 2026 in Dioïla, the capital of the Banico, in southern Mali. The launch ceremony took place on October 20, 2026 in the governorate's conference room, under the high patronage of the regional governor, Major General Kèba Sangaré.

The festival is an initiative of the sons and daughters of the territory, led by its president, Moussa Coulibaly. Its theme states the ambition: "the challenges of enhancing and promoting the cultural and tourism potential of the Dioïla region", Mali's 13th administrative region, in a year 2026 placed under the sign of education and culture.

Three days of celebration and traditions: art exhibitions, shows, folk dances, panel debates, a trade fair, storytelling sessions, traditional wrestling and tourist visits are on the programme of this first edition.

The stakes go beyond the party. Festibanico is meant as a prelude to Mali's next Artistic and Cultural Biennale: in 2025, in Timbuktu, Dioïla took second place in the general ranking, behind Bougouni. This time, the region is aiming for first place — and, in Moussa Coulibaly's words, the point is to make culture a lever of social cohesion, development and youth fulfilment.
