Old Quebec and its fortifications
Patrimoine mondial UNESCO
Québec — The only fortified city in North America north of Mexico: its ramparts, the Dufferin terrace and the Château Frontenac dominate the St. Lawrence River, while the Lower Town — Place Royale, rue du Petit-Champlain — retains the soul of the origins of New France. The historic district has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1985, and it is in these streets that the Carnival unfolds its ice sculptures every winter.
